Verse – Vanity, Cancer & Chemo

Well yes, I’ve lost weight in a flash,
But I’ve spent all my cash–my skin has a rash,
My Mother won’t feed me,
My wife doesn’t need me,
I’ve lost hair (pubic), beard, and mustache.

Not verse, worse

6 skills I retain after 11 treatments of Chemo:

1. Putting on or taking off a turtleneck without losing the toothpick in my mouth.

2. Driving a car with my knees under the steering wheel. (On private farm property. Chemo pain meds keep me off public roads.)

3. Sleeping in any position: prone, supine, curled, sitting.

4. Writing light verse, and sometimes poetry.

5. Helping folks laugh.

6. Praying.

Verse – Chemo Hair Loss, Male

Steve Shoemaker welcoming President Bill Clinton

Steve Shoemaker welcoming President Bill Clinton

I’ve been bald quite a while to the North,
But luxuriant beard’s round my mouth.
The Chemo’s relentless,
And soon I’ll be beardless,
And I never again will glance South…
