ObamaCare 2

The tactic of innuendo used to hold hostage the Affordable Care Act is nothing new on the American political stage. It has a history in the theater of American politics – the substitute of demagogic character assassination for substantive, rational, discussion of public policy. Here Edward R. Murrow exposes the tactics of Sen. Joseph McCarthy.

About Gordon C. Stewart

I've always liked quiet. And, like most people, I've experienced the world's madness. "Be Still! Departure from Collective Madness" (Wipf and Stock Publishers, Jan. 2017) distills 47 years of experiencing stillness and madness as a campus minister and Presbyterian pastor (IL, WI, NY, OH, and MN), poverty criminal law firm executive director, and social commentator. Our cat Lady Barclay reminds me to calm down and be much more still than I would be without her.

  1. I had never hear this before – but had heard and read a lot about McCarthy’s witch hunts. It was very interesting to watch and listen to him…. Facts seems equally irrelevant to him as they do to the people opposed to the current Affordable Care Act. At least they do to me.

    • Those of us who are old enough to remember running home from school to watch the McCarthy hearings make the connection very quickly. It’s the same voice. Same tone. Same suspicion. Same innuendo. Same kangaroo court. Same demagoguery.
