Clearly the most important part of this piece is the link to the article in the Guardian. It is a well-written, thorough, and thoughtful piece. Wherever you stand on the political spectrum, you should consider reading it. Also, keep in mind that this is a British newspaper, so this is from a U.K. perspective.
Interesting read and I really can’t argue too much with their stated view. This administration’s publicly stated goals are certainly scary, which makes me wonder what we haven’t heard yet…
KellyAnne Conway announced today that the President will not release his tax returns. Responding to the follow-up question recalling his promise to release them after the audit, she said it was “litigated” by the election. The people don’t care. That’s the kind of thing we hadn’t heard yet, as you say, and, sadly, there will be much more to come.
I’m with you. That handwriting was on the wall during the campaign and the mistaken identification of love of country (patriotism) with country as god (nationalist idolatry) was the shift McCarthy made. He was unsuccessful, but barely, and too many reputable people’s lives, livelihood, and reputations were hurt or ruined before Edward R. Murrow exposed McCarthyism for what it was. We will know Trump by his fruit.

My greatest fear is that we’ll be seeing a reinstitution of McCarthyism, which would not surprise me given the fragile state of the egos at the helm.
