Verse on Snow

I only know three
(Expurgated Version)

I only know three of the Inuit words
for snow, and they are, in translation, “the-snow-
that-falls-light-and-fluffy-and-can-be-ignored;”
“the-snow-wet-enough-to-make-two-obscene-snow-
folks-frolicking-out-in-the-yard;” and then last,
“the-white-stuff-that-falls-so-darn-wet-thick-and-fast-
that-shoveling-is-required-just-to-go-out-
for-beer.” (And that last word is said as a SHOUT!)

  1. And then there was the snow the drifted so thick and hard between the two houses on the farm that i took a saw from the entry and used it to cut block of snow and used a shovel to remove them downwind….. so we could walk between the houses… I think we called it “packed snow”.

  2. I haven’t missed a Mn winter in 66 yrs & yet I can’t say I actually know a single actual translated Inuit word for snow. I assume my snow lingo would fit the bill but for now I can really say I know 3 translations that will go a long way toward surviving my remaining Mn winters.
