Views from the Edge will be closing down for the time being.
Whether on Wednesday morning we wake to election results to our personal liking or to results that confirm, in our opinion, the adage that one should never underestimate the stupidity of the general public, we will not need more words from pundits. We will need something else. Until Views from the Edge can contribute something more than another noisy gong, we’ll opt for silence and see what, if anything, bubbles up that might be worth sharing.
Thanks for all your visits and encouragement.
Until later (maybe),
Grace and Peace,
Gordon
The things you say and share on this blog are certainly heard and appreciated and I would not call you a noisy gong.
I do respect the decision to take a break and enter into a period of silence. I encourage you to do so to be able to focus on the deeper things of the soul. There is a lot to be said for the old tradition of sabbatical. Which as I understand it was a period of rest and reflect, not a whirlwind of study and travel!
So I encourage you to do this not because your voice is not heard or lacks relevance but to find new and more powerful words to share with us.
I look forward to your return.

David, thank you for the sabbatical 🙂 Dennis Aubrey showed similar kindness with a wonderful invitation to lose myself in Mahler’s “I am lost to the world.” I believe that words are sacred things. Too many of them too often cheapens them. I’ve been torn, and likely will continue to be torn for the rest of my life, between the need to speak and the need to “be still, and know that I am God.” Today, Election Day here in the U.S., I’ll cast my vote. Then I’ll go wordless, listening to Mahler, contemplating the psalms and the great poets. Today I’m retiring to the sounds of silence. Maybe …if words come that are more worth sharing, I’ll jump in again.
“Old pond,
frog jumps in –
splash.” – Basho (1644-1694)
Thank you, David, for the words of wisdom and encouragement.

Don, Thanks for the affirmation. I feel more like a noisy gong. If a clanging cymbal clangs in the forest and nobody hears it, did it clang? 🙂

Retreat is good for the soul. I may try it after I write an entry for today’s blog.

Mona, the campaign is poisonous to the human spirit. I’m distraught that money can buy a government by smearing, slander, and lies. I’ve spoken my piece. To say it again would be redundant, and zipping the lip and changing my focus to the deeper things of the soul feels like a call.
