Verse for Today

One:  God, remind me of my neighbor,

take away my pride.

Two:  God, remind me of my power,

don’t let me run and hide.

About Gordon C. Stewart

I've always liked quiet. And, like most people, I've experienced the world's madness. "Be Still! Departure from Collective Madness" (Wipf and Stock Publishers, Jan. 2017) distills 47 years of experiencing stillness and madness as a campus minister and Presbyterian pastor (IL, WI, NY, OH, and MN), poverty criminal law firm executive director, and social commentator. Our cat Lady Barclay reminds me to calm down and be much more still than I would be without her.

  1. This one has a lot of meaning for me today. Questions involving a ‘neighbor’ on this earth and what I ‘owe’ — no answers but to remember my power to talk even if they won’t or can’t hear.

  2. Ooo-this one also hits the mark. especially “God, remind me of my power”. it’s getting harder for me to believe in one’s personal power to make any but tiny differences in the face of the huge troublesome iinjustices that are out there. I think Ican try searching harder for my light under the bushel. Thanks for the post, as always.

    • Susan, you don’t have far to go to find your light. It’s not under a bushel. Those who know you see it shining among us here and we’re blessed. A rare combination of honesty, compassion, searching, and gentleness is always a lovely light. Let it shine.
